Captain Helen 'Elle' McFearson RAN FHuPFG
By Mim

Name: Helen 'Elle' Christina McFearson (callsign Legs)

Age: 41~ January 27th 1972

Rank: Captain (Navy)

Position: CO UNS Invincible

Appearance:
5’10”. Red/Gold hair, blue eyes, slim build, fair complexion.

Personality: Elle is a quiet achiever. Modest of her abilities but is more than capable of getting the job done. She is forthright and says what she thinks. Strong willed and shows little emotion except in the company of close ones. She makes friends easily. Reliable and has the typical Australian dry wit. Quick with a joke and will always defend the weak. Elle is the one most turn to when in trouble. But don't ever talk about sex, religion, politics and the like, she will retreat into her shell on all topics. Even in intimate situations with someone she loves, Elle says little unless she really needs to.

ATA Gene: Yes

History: The oldest of three children (two boys younger) to immigrant parents Arthur from Edinburgh Scotland and Maria from Florence in Italy. Her parents met in Rome when her mother was finishing her Archeology studies and father was serving with the Royal Navy, his ship on a goodwill visit. They married a year later and Arthur lived with his wife's family before they migrated to Australia in the fifty's. Settling in suburban Brisbane Queensland they set up a successful little corner store in Eagle Farm.

Due to the many ups and downs of running a 'local' store, Arthur sought out work in his trade as an electrical fitter at Eagle Farm airport with a subsidiary of Raethon, manufacturing essential parts for the highly then secret US F-35 fighter program. He remained there until his retirement in 2009.

It was there Elle found her love of flying, living close to the Airport, she would watch with fascination the comings and goings of both commercial and military aircraft. She attended Brisbane State Technical High School and on graduating she was accepted into the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) where she received honours in Aeronautical Engineering. Soon after she was flying and selected for advanced helicopter training. She served on three ships, being HMAS Kanimbla, HMAS Canberra and HMAS Stuart the last was under the captaincy of the now Admiral William MacGregor. Elle did two tours of active duty in the gulf and in 2000 she was chosen for cross training with the US Navy where she trained for fast jets on firstly the Goshawk trainer and then on the F/A18D. She was seconded to the USS Abraham Lincoln and served another Gulf Tour during Gulf War 2, where she was credited with shooting down two MIG30's and a Mirage F1, the last she shared with Lieutenant Bill Hudson. It was while aboard the Kanimbla she had the good fortune to meet someone who she'd be reacquainted with years later when she joined the Stargate Program. Teya Renner, now a Commander and in charge of the Alpha Site's air group. Teya was on exchange at the time as a very young green Ensign. She had learned well while she served her two years with the Aussies.

Twin brothers, Paul and Richard (Rick), four years Elle's junior have followed similar paths to their older sister. Paul is currently a Major in the Australian Army serving as a lecturer at ADFA and Rick is a Superintendent with the Australian Federal Police.

As a side note, Elle drives a 1967 British racing green Triumph TR4a. Her favorite uncle had one that she always admired as a kid; she received the shock of her life some years ago when he had passed away with very little to show for his long life other than that little car which he had bequeathed to her. Elle brought over to the US three years ago, had it fully restored and once it was back in her hands she quickly disposed of that ratty Ford Focus she had been driving; it was a terrible car in her mind. Ted, the TR4a, she named after her uncle, was a favorite of Mike's as well.

SGC History:

In 2004 Elle was chosen by the Australian Defence Dept, on a request by the US Government, to apply for the Stargate programme and she passed selection easily, completed the SF and 302 flight course at the Alpha site and was surprised to find Bill had followed her some months afterwards. She spent her intitial training and orientation there, a duration of some six months.

During her time with the Daedalus, Elle gained a senior postion when she was temporarily assigned as that ships CAG. This experience bolstered her CV immensely, especially during the ships missions to Atlantis and the Pegasus galaxy. It was at a very critical time, being 2006-7 with the city's ongoing battles with both the Wraith and Asurans. It gave her an incredible amount of battle time, both in the seat of a 302 and on the ground and it was during these trying times, Elle had built up a rather perculiar friendship with Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard. The basis of this relationship was constant banter and ribbing one another over one thing or another, quite often it was each others flying expertise, both being originally helicopter pilots. If it wasn't that, it was John's reputation as 'Captain Kirk' or her rather strange habit of screaming a string of abusive expletives toward Wraith whenever they met in combat. John also, albeit among his fellow males, joined in the fun when the subject of Elle's impossibly long legs came up. Colonel Sheppard's favorite dig, was to call her 'Helen', knowing full well she hated that.

Elle was reposted back to the Milky Way galaxy and the Apollo during the Autumn of 2007, becoming that ships CAG until the end of 2008. Going back to the Alpha site was something of rather bizarre time for her. While at the Alpha site Elle fell in with a group of friends with similar interests, a fellow Australian and daughter of Admiral MacGregors, Cate; Rob Hughes and Mike Jaworksi and Elena Ovcharenko, along with Cooper Maxwell; a rather large brutish Air Force medic with a heart of gold. They were known as the 'Brat Pack' for their outrageous behaviour. Elle has had a on and off relationship with Mike since then although she has not seen him in a while. She spent almost a year there, until she finally attained the much sort after position as CAG of the Hammond under Colonel Samantha Carter.

Favoured Personal weapons: Gloch 27, P90 and the G36K, the F302 and AC401 (yes to her they are weapons)

UNS Dreadnought

The last year had been quite a stormy event for the Dreadnought Captain. After being posted to the Dreadnought initially as CAG whilst still a Commander under the Captaincy of Colonel Cameron Mitchell, their first important engagement was to fend off and fight the battles in the now recorded wars with the Hozgura. On return from that mission Cam was reassigned to the reformed SG1 and a new Captain was needed for the Dread. Little did Elle know that both Jack and the then SGC CO, Admiral Sean Davdison had been planning this for some time to coincide with Elle's promotion to full Captain. The problem was they would have to wait another six months, six months they couldn't afford to wait.

So it came to pass after many online conferences with the Australian DoD and the Pentagon, Elle was promoted ahead of time much to the chagrin of other RAN commanders back home (notices are posted on the Naval promotions boards list) and indeed other Colonels and Captains within the already established SGC hierarchy. As in Jack's own words 'I don't give a rat's arse what they think. We're in the business of putting the best people in the positions as we see fit, I wouldn't have cared if Helen was still a Major or whatever rank the Aussie Navy has for it, I still would have pushed for it.' The whole thing came as quite a shock to Elle and indeed Mike, when he realized the woman he loved was now his commanding officer.

Not long after doing a few works up after there were some smallish issues raised with the cooling systems on the Hyper Drive, plus main weapons adjustments, the Dreadnought under its new Commander was sent straight into the sharp end when a threat not seen coming when an attack via a human carried virus created yet another war for Earth and its allies to contend with. Zulu station was the first target and the Dreadnought was sent to assist. In that frightful outcome almost 95% of the stations personnel was lost to the virus infection or the subsequent actions taken to cleanse the station. But it didn't end there; with a living example of one poor soul taken onto the ship for examination by Doctor Jaworski, with the victim being placed in an isolation chamber on the hangar deck. All went well for about 3 minutes until the much changed human came out of its Zat induced stupor, the crap hit the fan as it is said. In the ensuing struggle before the beast was killed, one SF lay dead, another severely injured and Mike. That hurt the most, not that Elle didn't care for all her crew but seeing the man she cared for most in the world go down like that cut to the core of her being. From that day, for good or ill, she swore to herself she'd never see Mike placed in that position again.

On completion of the Destroyer Wars (the ghastly outfall of the Zulu station mission), the Dread returned to Earth for minor repairs and a week's R&R before heading to the Alpha Site and eventually Atlantis for the ship to replace the Apollo as that Galaxie’s Earth representation. The Dread was accompanied for the first time by her two escorts, the UNS Rabaul and UNS Okinawa, CG 340 class light cruiser gun ships. A short leave was granted when Colonel Sheppard and Doctor McKay felt urged to return to Atlantis immediately via the Alpha Site Stargate rather than wait to be transported on the Dreadnought, a journey of some 4 days. While then Mike and Elle enjoyed some much needed down time, not without its usual interruptions of course (see Alpha site files). Until finally the ship had to leave, that is when Elle's life took the worst turn of all.

Within hours of arrival over Atlantis, the ship was immediately sent out on a rescue mission to find a group of Athosian captives Teyla Emmagan had been warned about. What seemed at first glance a straight forward foray into a relatively quiet region of space, turned out to be a well planned trap.

Not an hour onto the planet in question, as the teams had gathered the refugees and began making their way back to the drop ships, several Wraith Darts appeared; they were engaged by the ship’s 302s, but that part was merely a ruse. Another lone dart appeared and using the Culling Beam, swept over the valley. Everyone scattered, some even injured as they fled; but not Mike Jaworski, busy helping someone as he always did, he wasn’t quick enough.

The outfall was horrendous; in the pursuing months Elle nearly went insane with grief; so much so that in the end, Carrie Svensson the ship’s medical officer sent to replace Mike, had to relieve Elle from duty. Three months passed and eventually Mike was found, held to ransom so to speak by the Wraith Half breed Rhiase; in exchange she more or less forced the humans to ally with them and engage in a war against the Vanir (Pegasus Asgard). Elle had already been sent back to Earth for some serious help, Mike soon followed. While she was diagnosed with PTSD, Mike’s condition was worse; he had lost most of his memories and it was only with the help of their friend Cate MacGregor did they both pull through. Six months later they were back to work. As 2013 opened, Elle took command of the Nuship UNS Invincible and once again, the now Major Jaworski was her Medical Officer.
